Hoka Skyflow Review

A Hoka Skyflow review by David McGaffin, Pure Running customer.

Hoka Skyflow  - here's what I think. I'd been waiting patiently for the arrival of the Hoka Skyflow, as I'd been reading up on them and hoped that they would live up to all the hype.

I've been a fan of the Hoka's for many years and have many models in the stable for the various terrains and weathers that I like to go running in, but what was always missing was an all - round performance road shoe for the daily miles.

I use the Cliftons for racing, but they don't have the durability for day to day running and will quickly shred if abused too much, and while the Bondi's are great for slow recovery runs, they are too heavy and unresponsive for training miles. So this is the gap that I hoped the Skyflow would fill, and having got the first pair sold by Pure Running I'm more than happy to provide a review, which initially was, "wow fantastic", but then I thought "No" let's just wait and put a few more miles on them first and then formulate an opinion. Well, 100 or so miles later I am happy to report that these are the shoes more than fill the gap in the stable and are an absolute pleasure to run in.

They are slightly heavier than the Cliftons but the pay off is that they provide greater stability, which is what's needed when clocking up those daily training miles. The slight increase in the heel drop and the change in the midsole structure make for a responsive shoe that works well on any distance of run.  The wide toe box provides a comfortable fit without feeling loose and the breathable uppers keep sweaty feet at bay. For me the biggest test was always going to be durability, and I am happy to report that the Hoka Skyflow has surpassed my expectations with minimal wear on the sole. I’m also happy to see a heel loop instead of the horn and I look forward to a long and happy relationship with the Skyflow.
